Instructions for Holy Living: Purity, Love, and Work

1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

4
Chapter 4
1 Finally then, brothers, we ask you and exhort you in the Lord Jesus that, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and please God—as you are walking—that you may abound more. 2 For you know what sort of commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality, 4 to know each of you his own vessel to acquire in sanctification and honor 5 not in passion of desire, just as also the nations who do not know God, 6 that you not transgress and defraud your brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly testified. 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness but to sanctification. 8 Therefore the one rejecting does not reject a human but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you. 9 But concerning brotherly love, you have no need for us to write to you, for you yourselves are God-taught to love one another. 10 And indeed you do this toward all the brothers in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, to abound even more. 11 and to aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, just as we commanded you, 12 so that you walk decently toward those outside and have need of no one.
